Sunday July 19th 2015

Today I went back into DC to meet Jon Kalbfleisch for dinner.  He showed me all around downtown Washington like  a proud daddy, and gave me lots of scoop on what to see and do.  I took a few pics in Penn Quarter.   The Mexican restaurant he treated me to was a tapas place, with lots of different ceviches, and authentic food combos.  Great place!

Saturday July 18 2015

It is 12:37 here and I just woke up. I fell asleep just before 9 last night...I'm too tired and lethargic to do the math, but I slept a lot and feel like sleeping more.

I thought I'd be up much earlier without setting an alarm, and hit the Smithsonian today. But the thing about vacationing by myself is that I can't break rules that aren't even there. If I need sleep, I'm gonna do it! I didn't realize how tired I was. So today will be a day to laze amidst so much natural beauty.

I found a cheap, nice hotel in Fairfax Virginia, so am staying here for a few days. It's less than an hour to Maryland and DC. I can't get over the nature...every road I drive on, every highway, has a forest on each side. Millions of huge high trees, so much green! I will stop some today and take some pics, but yesterday I just gawked as I drove through Potomac, DC, Ellicot, and other random places.

Speaking of gawking, I drove throughout Washington yesterday. I didn't go into anyplace or park, just did an impromptu, car tour. I've never seen a city like this. All the buildings, the hugeness, the magnificence of our history...Massachusetts Avenue, which is Embassy Row, all the embassies are there, miles and miles of them...miles and miles of huge, old, unshakable federal edifices, in every direction.

I need a year here to take this all in and see all there is.

Friday July 17 2015

Friday 1st full day of vacation finds me in beautiful historic Ellicot City, Maryland, at the suggestion of Maestro Kalbfleisch. Having lunch at the Tersiguel's French Country Restaurant. Bouillebaisse!

Here are some of the pics I snapped from sudden stops on the road. Impossibly high hills and green and trees, and old-school houses....Jon got it right. The last one is the restaurant.

Today's plan is to drive into DC. Then I'll hit the first activity that grabs my attention.

Arthur on the Road

Arthur's adventures!

July 16 2015

I'm flying out to Baltimore and then renting a car. So the road trip is more regional...Baltimore to DC, New Jersey, maybe Philadelphia, hopefully NY. Nothing is planned after I land at 12:40ish Friday morning, except to find a hotel and SLEEP!
